Mike Vance's first book, a small sports humor books called Oilers Anonymous, was published in 1994. Since that time, twelve others have followed from multiple publishers. There are serious works on Texas and Houston history and other books that are all about the humor. Two books of historic true crime proved more popular than the others, and led Vance's book writing in a new direction. The Duckworth Historical Crime Novel series kicked off in late 2024 with The Devil's Lease. Those books will revolve around a sometimes shady and irascible Texas defense attorney of the early 1900s who has a knack for winning cases and a soft spot for a righteous cause. His first two novels, Wingo and Wingo's Redemption, make up an historical baseball fiction duology. If you love Texas history, you'll find nothing more diverse and interesting than the Undertold Texas books. Each volume has 48 wide ranging stories of the Lone Star past.
